Genetic basis of multiple resistance to the brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens stål) and the green rice leafhopper (nephotettix cincticeps uhler) in the rice cultivar ‘ASD7’ (oryza sativa L. ssp. indica)

The rice cultivar ASD7 (Oryza sativa L. ssp. indica) is resistant to the brown planthopper (BPH; Nilaparvata lugens Stål) and the green leafhopper (Nephotettix virescens Distant). Here, we analyzed multiple genetic resistance to BPH and the green rice leafhopper (GRH; Nephotettix cincticeps Uhler). Using two independent F2 populations derived from a cross between ASD7 and Taichung 65 (Oryza sativa ssp. japonica), we detected two QTLs (qBPH6 and qBPH12) for resistance to BPH and one QTL (qGRH5) for resistance to GRH. Linkage analysis in BC2F3 populations revealed that qBPH12 controlled resistance to BPH and co-segregated with SSR markers RM28466 and RM7376 in plants homozygous for the ASD7 allele at qBPH6 Plants homozygous for the ASD7 alleles at both QTLs showed a much faster antibiosis response to BPH than plants homozygous at only one of these QTLs. Synthesis of Cu core Ag shell nanoparticles using chemical reduction method

A simple chemical reduction method is used to prepare colloidal bimetallic Cu-Ag core-shell (Cu@Ag) nanoparticles. Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) was used as capping agent, and ascorbic acid (C6H8O6) and sodium borohydride (NaBH4) were used as reducing agents. The obtained Cu@Ag nanoparticles were characterized by powder x-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-vis spectrophotometry. The influence of [Ag]/[Cu] molar ratios on the formation of Ag coatings on the Cu particles was investigated. From the TEM results we found that the ratio [Ag+]/[Cu2+] = 0.2 is the best for the stability of Cu@Ag nanoparticles with an average size of 22 nm. It is also found out that adding ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) makes the obtained Cu@Ag nanoparticles more stable over time when pure deionized water is used as solvent.

Parallel and sequential hybrid methods for a finite family of asymptotically quasi-nonexpansive mappings

In this paper we study some novel parallel and sequential hybrid methods for finding a common fixed point of a finite family of asymptotically quasi (Formula presented.)-nonexpansive mappings. The results presented here modify and extend some previous results obtained by several authors.

Modeling municipal solid waste collection: A generalized vehicle routing model with multiple transfer stations, gather sites and inhomogeneous vehicles in time windows

Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) collection is a necessary process in any municipality resulting in the quality-of-life, economic aspects and urban structuralization. The intrinsic nature of MSW collection relates to the development of effective vehicle routing models that optimize the total traveling distances of vehicles, the environmental emission and the investment costs. In this article, we propose a generalized vehicle routing model including multiple transfer stations, gather sites and inhomogeneous vehicles in time windows for MSW collection. It takes into account traveling in one-way routes, the number of vehicles per m2 and waiting time at traffic stops for reduction of operational time. The proposed model could be used for scenarios having similar node structures and vehicles' characteristics.
